A drink-driver had a near-miss with a police car on his way back from a boozy party.
Callum MacDonald, 20, forced another driver to take evasive action as a result of his careless driving on January 7 on Moffat Road and Milton of Craigie Road.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard MacDonald decided to drive home to Tayport from Dundee at 3am after attending a party.
Fiscal depute Kirsten Letford said police on patrol noticed MacDonald’s vehicle approaching a roundabout but it failed to slow down or give way, causing them to take evasive action.
She said: “The accused was found to be the driver of the vehicle and the only occupant.
“Police described him as being very nervous with an evident smell of alcohol.”
MacDonald, of Linksfield, Tayport, pleaded guilty to driving a car with 73 mics of alcohol in 100 mls of breath.
He also drove without due care and attention, failed to give way at a junction and entered the carriageway into the path of a car driven by Connor McLaren, causing him to take evasive action to avoid a collision.
Solicitor Douglas Williams said MacDonald had only recently got the car as a 20th birthday present.
He added: “It’s been a severe shock to the system and he realises the implications of that error of judgment.”
Sheriff John Rafferty banned MacDonald from driving for 17 months and fined him £500.
