Michael Moore, of Ballantrae Place, was fined after he admitted driving without insurance.
He pleaded guilty to a charge of driving a car without a valid policy of insurance on his home street on September 4 last year.
Moore, who represented himself in court, told Sheriff John Rafferty that he was stopped by police after buying a car from another man.
Officers on patrol at 7.35pm on the night in question came across the 34-year-old out driving and a check on the police national computer found the vehicle was not insured.
Moore told Sheriff Rafferty that he believed the vehicle was insured after buying it but accepted responsibility for the offence.
He was fined £300 by Sheriff Rafferty and had six penalty points added to his licence.
