Serial Dundee abuser told his partner ‘the two of us will be dead’ and made eye gouge threat

A serial abuser threatened to kill himself and his partner before pushing a fork into her face, saying he was going to gouge her eye out.

Bruce Burry, 36, also smeared his own blood on to Lorraine Foy and said he was doing it to “claim self-defence”.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard how Burry lashed out at Ms Foy at the home they shared on Harlow Place.

Fiscal depute Stuart Duncan said: “The accused was lying on the sofa falling asleep and the complainer told him to get up and go to bed.

“He immediately started shouting at her and was right in her face while shouting.

“She told him to ‘shut up’ and he grabbed her arms and squeezed them, causing bruises.”

Burry grabbed a knife and held it to his throat, saying he was going to kill himself and blame it on Ms Foy.

He then grabbed her by the neck and said: “I’m not leaving this house tonight and neither are you – the two of us will be dead.”

He threw her on to the bed, restraining her with his body and knees, and said: “I’m away to kill you first then I’m going to kill myself.”

The fiscal said: “The accused put his foot against her back and pulled her tightly. He let go of her and she tried to run to the stairs but he caught her.”

Burry again pushed her onto the bed but she kicked him off, opened a window and shouted: “Help!”

He grabbed a fork and pushed it below her eye and at the side of her head, saying he was going to gouge her eye out.

Police attended and Burry climbed on to the roof, where he threw tiles at officers below, before coming down and being taken into custody.

Burry, a prisoner at Perth, admitted assault to injury, abusive behaviour, breach of curfew, vandalism, having a knife and aggressive behaviour within a police cell, all on October 5 last year. Sentence was deferred until February 20.
