Ryan Simpson, 22, of North William Street, had sentence deferred until November 28.
Simpson admitted stealing toys from The Entertainer, Wellgate Shopping Centre, on September 27.
He further admitted stealing meat and toiletries from Scotmid, Clepington Road, on July 8 and stealing electric toothbrushes from Boots, High Street, on June 28.
He also admitted assaulting Alan Muir at B&M Bargains, Wellgate, on July 11 last year.
