A prisoner spent his first 48 hours behind bars high after smuggling £2,000 worth of heroin into the prison by stuffing it into a rubber glove and hiding it internally.
Michael Drumm, 35, had hidden the heroin inside the fingers of a rubber glove when he was sentenced to four months for shoplifting offences in Dundee.
He entered Perth Prison on August 16 last year and aroused suspicion because he appeared to be under the influence of drugs from the moment he arrived.
A package was found in his bed shortly afterwards but Drumm was still high two days later and the second package was found during a subsequent search.
Drumm, of Soapwork Lane, Dundee, was jailed for 11 months at Perth Sheriff Court today when he admitted having heroin with intent to supply at the jail on August 17 and 18 last year.
Fiscal depute John Malpass said: “He has 36 previous convictions, mostly for dishonesty.
“Upon arrival at the prison he appeared heavily under the influence of a controlled drug and staff suspected he was concealing more internally. He was placed in segregation.”
Mr Malpass told the court one of the packages was “contaminated” but the total value of the heroin recovered was £1,968 pounds.
