A man who performed a sex act in front of a child 25 years ago has been jailed.
Alan Hardie, from Fintry, stood trial accused of committing attacks on children in Dundee during the 1990s.
The 60-year-old was indicted on three charges at the High Court in Edinburgh in September.
A jury found him guilty of one charge, that between January 1991 and August 1993, at an address in Downfield, he used lewd, libidinous and indecent practices towards a child by performing a sex act in front of the youngster.
Hardie also induced the child to perform a sex act, forced the child to watch a pornographic film and sexually assaulted the child.
Hardie, of Fintryside, was cleared of two charges alleging he used lewd, libidinous and indecent practices towards a second child between 1991 and 1999.
After being found guilty he was remanded in custody. Now he has been jailed for four years, backdated to September 19, the day he was convicted.
Charity bosses reacted with anger at Hardie’s sentence.
Sinead Daly, from the Women’s Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (WRASAC), had previously said she hoped Hardie’s sentence “reflects the severity of the crimes committed”.
But after learning of the sentence Ms Daly said: “This sentence beggars belief.
“Given that he will probably be out in two years to my mind it is not sufficient for the nature and level of the offences he committed against a young child.
“This sentence does not reflect the trauma caused to the young person involved.
“He will be released in a couple of years but this young person will potentially suffer trauma and distress for many years to come.
“The child could spend a lifetime trying to recover.”
