Connor McLeod, of Ladywell Avenue, had “no recollection” of stealing £37 of fuel from the BP filling station on Kingsway West on February 28. The 23-year-old was identified by staff on CCTV. He was then found to have been driving while disqualified and without insurance. Dundee Sheriff Court heard that McLeod was seen taking petrol from the filling station just before 9.30pm. The additional driving offences were then discovered when police investigated the theft. Solicitor Kevin Hampton told Sheriff Lorna Drummond that McLeod struggled to recall anything about he incident. He said: “He tells me he has no recollection about what happened. “However, he accepts responsibility for it and is pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity.” Passing sentence, Sheriff Drummond told McLeod: “You pleaded guilty to the three charges before me on this complaint. “My view is that I should deal with this by way of a custodial sentence.” McLeod was sentenced to eight months in prison. He was also disqualified from driving for 12 months. This article originally appeared on the Evening Telegraph website. For more information, read about our new combined website.
