Drink-driver crashed into vehicle at Dundee roundabout – then carried on boozing

A 49-year-old man drove his car after drinking and crashed into another vehicle at a Dundee roundabout.

He then carried on home and continued drinking before police turned up at his door.

Ian Taylor, of Dunmore Gardens, told officers he had just had a glass of wine on his return, but when breathalysed he gave a reading or more than double the alcohol limit.

He admitted two charges at Dundee Sheriff Court, was disqualified from driving for a year and fined £500.

Taylor admitted drink-driving with 50 mics of alcohol in 100ml of breath, on August 28.

He also admitted driving without due care and attention at Five Ways roundabout, at its junction with Moncur Cresent, in that he failed to give way and drove on to the roundabout and collided with a Jaguar X-type being driven by Christopher Mitchell.

Fiscal depute Joanne Smith told the court: “At 10.30pm the witness, Mr Mitchell, was driving his car at the roundabout.

“The accused approached the roundabout and entered, colliding with Mr Mitchell’s car.

“He was traced at his home address by police an hour later and admitted driving.

“He also said he had a glass of wine after he got home, was breathalysed and gave a reading of 50 mics.”

Sheriff George Way endorsed Taylor’s licence with the charges, as well as issuing the driving ban and fine.
