Man accused of breaking into three Dundee restaurants and one in Perth on same day

A man accused of breaking into a string of restaurants in Dundee and Perth, all on the same day, has been remanded in custody.

Martin Brown, 55, of Fence Houses Avenue in Houghton-Le-Spring, County Durham, appeared in private before Sheriff Alastair on a petition alleging he broke into or attempted to break into two restaurants in Broughty Ferry’s Brook Street, one in Dundee city centre and a fourth in Perth city centre, on June 12.

Prosecutors allege that Brown broke into the Indos premises occupied by Allam Russell on Brook Street, Broughty Ferry, and stole £450 in cash.

He is also accused of, by means of attempting to force open the rear door, attempting to break into the premises known as Lala’s, occupied by Umar Kamran, on Brook Street, Broughty Ferry, with intent to steal.

Brown is also alleged to have, by means of attempting to force open a door by unknown means, attempted to break into the Mandarin Gardens restaurant, on South Tay Street, Dundee, premises occupied by Jai Hu, with intent to steal.

Furthermore, he is accused of, at Tabla Restaurant, on South Street, Perth, breaking into premises with intent to steal and forcing open a lockfast till and stealing £76 in cash.

He made no plea and was fully committed for trial, making no motion for bail.
