A love cheat has admitted attempting to murder a man he suspected of telling his girlfriend he had been unfaithful to her.
Gary McCafferty pleaded guilty to a charge of repeatedly stabbing 29-year-old Keeon Leon Roberts in Dallfield Court, Hilltown Terrace.
The 38-year-old admitted that on May 15 he assaulted Mr Roberts by repeatedly striking him on the body with a knife.
McCafferty, a prisoner at Perth, then repeatedly struck him on the body again, this time with a second knife.
The court heard his partner Nicola Jackson had gone to Mr Roberts’ flat.
She heard Mr Roberts asking McCafferty if he wanted to stay the night. She then heard a female say something about having sex with McCafferty.
This confirmed her suspicions that McCafferty had been cheating on her. McCafferty and Miss Jackson began arguing and then went back home where they continued to row. At one point McCafferty shouted: “I’m away to stab **** out of him”, and made his way to Mr Roberts’ flat.
Following the attack Mr Roberts was taken to Ninewells Hospital in an ambulance under police escort for treatment for potentially life-threatening injuries.
The court heard he had been left with severe injuries and was permanently disfigured.

Advocate depute Shanti Maguire, prosecuting, told the court: “The situation appears to have arisen due to the accused suspecting Mr Roberts had told Mr McCafferty’s partner of his infidelity with another woman.”
A number of police units and ambulance personnel descended on the Dallfield Court multi following the incident.
Officers stayed at the scene for more than 12 hours following the incident, with one standing guard outside the door of a flat.
Judge Lord Matthews deferred sentence on McCafferty until October 9.
