A man has appeared in court accused of a £70,000 benefits swindle over a 23-year period.
David Hoban, 53, of Worbey Place, is alleged to have told staff at the DWP that he was severely immobile and struggled to walk and struggled to carry out day-to-day tasks without “significant assistance”.
He made a brief appearance in private at Dundee Sheriff Court before Sheriff John Rafferty on a petition alleging he committed the offence over a 23-year period at various locations in Tayside.
Prosecutors allege that between April 8 1994 and June 27 2017, at Craigmill Gardens, Carnoustie, Worbey Place, Longforgan, at the Dundee Dental Hospital, Park Place, and at Hospital Street in Dundee, he pretended to officers of the DWP that he had severe disability issues, struggled to walk and required significant assistance in carrying out everyday tasks, the truth being that his physical capability was greater than declared and he did not require help and assistance from others to the extent he claimed.
Prosecutors also say he was able during that time to carry out tasks he said he was unable to do and induced the DWP to award disability living allowance and obtained £73,717 by fraud.
Hoban made no plea and was granted bail by the sheriff and the case was continued for further examination.
n SENAD Kahrimanovic, 39, of Leslie Court in Perth, will face trial at Dundee Sheriff Court in November on bogus workman charges.
It is alleged that between January 1 and May 23, 2017, at a house in Strathmiglo, he obtained £2,000 from Anne Hayes for work not done, that on January 27, he obtained £400 from Jill Arthur at Roman Way, Dunblane, for work not done and that between March 7 and March 13, he obtained £1,000 from Damian Hunt at Gullane Avenue, Dundee, for work not done.
Trial was fixed for November 13.
