A yob verbally abused police officers – asking one if he was in the Holocaust.
At Dundee Sheriff Court, Joel Justice, 27, of Bellefield Avenue, admitted spitting on another officer.
He also made racist remarks and shouted: “No Islam in Europe” and “Kill all Muslims”.
Fiscal depute Joanne Smith told the court Justice was seen in a common close in Bellefield Avenue and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
Police officers spoke to him and he said to PC Wojciech Maciesowicz: “Are you Polish?” He then said to the officer: “**** off back to Poland, this is Scotland, Polish *******.”
Mrs Smith told the court he continued to be abusive to PC Maciesowicz and PC Scott Harris and spat on PC Harris’s arm.
Justice, who has been in court for being racist twice before, admitted that in a police vehicle travelling between Bellefield Avenue and police headquarters on July 21, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner, shouted and swore, shouted racist and prejudiced remarks regarding religion and assaulted PC Gary Cargill by spitting on him.
Sheriff John Rafferty told Justice he had considered a custodial sentence. He said: “It was disgraceful conduct and the courts have a duty to protect the public from people like you, in particular officers who are just doing their duty.
“This comes on the back of two other racial charges and it is with some considerable hesitation I think it is possible to impose a non- custodial sentence.
“A restriction of liberty order is not appropriate as it would give you the chance to just sit in your home and drink.”
He placed Justice on a community payback order under supervision for six months and ordered him to complete 170 hours of unpaid work as a direct alternative to prison.
“Breach this order and you will go to jail,” the sheriff told Justice.
