A man was due to appear in court yesterday charged with stealing a shop’s charity collection for a young boy with a heart condition.
A Police Scotland spokesman confirmed that a 38-year-old man had been arrested in connection with an alleged theft from the Premier store in the city’s Perth Road on August 5.
The money was being collected for 11-year-old Kaydn Buchan, who spent a month in hospital in Spain with dilated cardiomyopathy and arrhythmia.
The spokesman said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a 38-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a theft of a charity box from a shop in Perth Road on Sunday August 5.
“He was due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court.”
Kaydn was only two days into a sunshine break to Benidorm when he was rushed to hospital with unexpected heart arrhythmias last month.
He was taken into intensive care where his heart had to be shocked five times to save his life.
The former pupil of St Peter and Paul Primary spent a month in hospital because doctors said he was too ill to fly home.
Kaydn finally arrived back in Scotland by air ambulance earlier this month.
After a short stay in the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, he is now getting ready to start at St John’s High.
While the family – who live in the Hilltown – were in Spain, family and friends at home started fundraising for them.
Within a short time, they had raised thousands in pounds to support the family.
