A man who grabbed a police officer’s earpiece and repeatedly attempted to bite him and headbutt him, had also refused to have an electronic tag fitted for a restriction of liberty order.
Bryan Wrycza, 35, of Ambleside Terrace, admitted assaulting PC Matthew Boath on Tuesday by forcibly removing his earpiece, repeatedly attempting to bite him on the body and attempting to headbutt him.
He also admitted breaching the restriction of liberty order on the day it was imposed, which was Wednesday of last week.
The order had been imposed after he admitted a breach of the peace and assaulting Kara McPhee in November of last year, by punching her on the head.
Solicitor Anika Jethwa told the court Wrycza had severe learning difficulties and a speech impediment.
She said that, two days after refusing to have the tag fitted, he had telephoned her to say he’d had a change of heart and he would agree to it.
However, she had explained that it was not how it worked.
She told Wrycza he would have to hand himself in to the police.
She told the court the accused had agreed to do so on Tuesday.
However, he was anxious about it and went to the pub for a couple of drinks that evening before doing so, and afterwards assaulted the police officer in Cowgate.
Sheriff Alastair Carmichael deferred sentence on Wrycza until September 20.
This was to enable Sheriff Thomas Hughes to deal with the case as he had imposed the original restriction of liberty order.
Sheriff Carmichael also ordered a further restrict ion of liberty order assessment and a social work background report, granting him bail.
