Dundee man ‘severely assaulted another man by throwing brick at him’

A man has appeared in court accused of severely assaulting another man by throwing a brick at him and permanently disfiguring him.

Bruce Burry, 35, of Harlow Place, appeared in private before Sheriff John Rafferty on a petition.

It alleged that on July 22, at an address in Harlow Place, he assaulted Thomas O’Brien in his own home.

Burry is accused of repeatedly punching him and throwing a brick at him to his injury and permanent disfigurement.

He is also alleged to have, on various occasions on July 25, at addresses in Brantwood Avenue, Harlow Place and Brantwood Place, all in the city, behaved in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause fear or alarm.

Prosecutors allege that Burry repeatedly shouted and swore and challenged Mr O’Brien to a fight.

They also claim that he repeatedly brandished knives or similar implements, threw a stepladder, repeatedly brandished a brick and uttered threats to damage property there.

Burry made no plea during his brief appearance.

He was remanded in custody.

The case was continued for further examination.
