A former Perth provost who drove carelessly and collided with a Dundee bus stop, causing £1,000 of damage, has been fined.
John Hulbert, 79, of Castle Road, Longforgan, admitted that on October 10 last year, at Perth Road in Dundee, he drove his car carelessly and failed to maintain proper control, swerved on to the opposing carriageway, mounted the pavement and collided with a bus stop, causing damage to both the bus stop and his car.
The court was told the incident happened close to Harris Academy and it was fortunate there were no children around as it was the school holidays at the time.
Sheriff John Rafferty said the incident was at the top level of careless driving cases and fined Mr Hulbert £750.
He also endorsed his licence with seven penalty points.
Mr Hulbert served as head of Perth and Kinross Council from 2006-12.
