A man is to stand trial accused of embezzling £45,000 from a high street bookmaker – after allegedly finding a flaw in their system that allowed him to put on sports bets after the results had been decided.
Gavin Thomson is alleged to have carried out the scam at Coral branches in Forfar and Dundee.
It is alleged that in both stores he “identified a fault within the computer system” allowing bets to be registered after the result of an event was known.
Prosecutors say that ensured the bet placed was a winning bet and that he “induced others to place a number of bets on his behalf” for events that had already finished.
As a result he is alleged to have embezzled £25,385.25 in false winning bets in Dundee and £19,478.47 in Forfar.
Thomson, 27, of Viewmount, Forfar, faces two charges of embezzlement on indictment at Dundee Sheriff Court, allegedly committed between October 2015 and January 2016.
Defence solicitor Sarah Russo said Thomson was pleading not guilty to the charge.
Sheriff Alastair Carmichael continued the case to a further pre-trial hearing next week.
