A man has appeared in court accused of a knifepoint robbery at a Broughty Ferry bookmakers.
Nathan Ritchie, 38, made a brief appearance in private before Sheriff Simon Collins at Dundee Sheriff Court yesterday and made no plea.
Ritchie appeared on a petition in which prosecutors allege that on July 23, at William Hill Bookmakers, Brook Street, he assaulted Alison Edwards, an employee there, by presenting a knife at her.
He is then alleged to have demanded money from her and robbed her of £716.
Sheriff Collins continued the case for further examination and Ritchie was granted bail.
Shocked shoppers and workers reported seeing a “flurry of police cars” descend on Brook Street on Monday following an alleged incident, which saw the bookmakers shop closed and an officer placed on guard at the shuttered door.
Plain-clothed CID officers were seen speaking to shop workers as part of their investigations.
Craig Roger, 53, the general sales manager at nearby store Gillies, said: “I’ve been here two years and it’s the first time I’ve seen anything like it.”
