A man who admitted having a razor and a knuckleduster in a public place has been spared jail and been allowed to continue caring for his wife.
John Jamieson, of Kinloch Street in Carnoustie, was found guilty of two charges after trial at Dundee Sheriff Court, having pleaded guilty at a previous appearance to another two.
Jamieson, 43, was found guilty of being in possession of an open-bladed razor, without reasonable excuse or lawful authority, on May 17 at the Black Slab car park at Links Parade, Carnoustie.
He was also found guilty of being in possession of a knuckleduster, which is an offensive weapon.
Jamieson previously pleaded guilty to a third charge, that on the same date and at the same location, he had possessed heroin, a Class A drug.
He also pleaded guilty to, at the Black Slab car park, and at Arbroath police station, possessing etizolam, a Class C drug.
Jamieson’s defence agent had asked for a non- custodial sentence to be imposed to allow Jamieson to continue his role as a carer for his wife.
Sentencing Jamieson, Sheriff Lorna Drummond said: “Charges one and two are serious charges involving offensive weapons.
“Someone with his record, who has been sent to prison before, could be given a custodial sentence for charges one and two. But, having read the criminal justice social work reports, they are positive reports.
“Obviously he is caring for his wife and engaging with his key worker.
“On balance of that I can deal with the matters by way of a community-based disposal.
“However, the four charges are serious so it has to be robust.”
The sheriff sentenced Jamieson to 300 hours of unpaid work, the maximum that can be imposed, to be completed within nine months.
He was also put on a restriction of liberty order for four months, requiring him to be in his home address between 7pm-7am.
