A man was arrested for threatening his 81-year-old mum – the day he was released from court on bail for the same offence.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard neighbours became aware of shouting from the house Alan Campbell and his mother share on May 16.
Fiscal depute Marie Irvine said: “Witness Pauline Higgins said he was shouting, ‘you got me the ******* jail, what did you say to them?’
“Another witness contacted police and then looked through the keyhole of the property.
“Campbell had his mother backed into the corner and was screaming into her face, saying, ‘You got me the jail, I’ll need to go to jail because of you, **** you’.”
Campbell, 55, of Fleming Gardens South, admitted that on May 16 he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner, likely to cause fear or alarm, by shouting and swearing at his mother, Antonia Campbell.
Solicitor Jim Caird told the court Campbell was an “unofficial” carer for his mother, who had mobility issues related to a stroke. As such, he asked the sheriff to consider a community-based disposal.
He said Ms Campbell’s hearing was poor and as such, Campbell was forced to “talk loudly to her” – but did not suggest this explained his actions in relation to the offence.
Mr Caird said: “He lost his temper on this occasion. He wants to go back to looking after his mother. He seems to be quite devoted to her.”
Sheriff Lorna Drummond said: “This is serious matter as he was out on bail, granted the same day, for a very similar matter involving the same complainer.”
Sentence was deferred until July 4 and Campbell was remanded in custody.
