A man has appeared in court accused of following a woman and trying to rape her.
Ryan Byrne, 38, of St Nicholas Place, appeared in private before Sheriff Alastair Carmichael on a petition alleging he followed a woman in a Dundee street, grabbed her from behind and tried to rape her.
Byrne appeared from custody and made no plea during his brief appearance before the sheriff.
Prosecutors allege that Byrne assaulted the woman in Park Place on May 18, followed her, grabbed her from behind and placed his hands down the front of her trousers with intent to rape her.
It is also alleged the offence was committed while Byrne was on bail, having been granted bail at Dundee Sheriff Court on April 24.
His solicitor Lesley Beats made no plea on his behalf and he was remanded in custody while the case was continued for further examination.
The case was due to call again for a bail application to be made on Byrne’s behalf.
