Man, 27, accused of stabbing murder attempt at Dundee multi

A man has appeared in court accused of an attempted murder at a multi-storey block of flats in Dundee.

Gary McCafferty, 27, of Dallfield Court in the Hilltown, is alleged to have repeatedly stabbed another man in an attempt to kill him.

His appearance in court follows an incident at the block on Tuesday night, which saw several police units and an ambulance attend the scene.

A 29-year-old man was taken to Ninewells Hospital and was said to have suffered serious injuries.

McCafferty appeared in private, on petition, before Sheriff Alastair Carmichael at Dundee Sheriff Court.

He faced a charge that on Tuesday, at a flat within the multi, he assaulted Keeon Roberts.

Prosecutors allege that he repeatedly struck Mr Roberts with a knife on the head and body. The charge states that this was done in an attempt to murder Mr Roberts.

It is claimed that the offence was committed while McCafferty was on a bail order, which had been put in place on December 7.

Solicitor Carolyn Leckie, appearing on McCafferty’s behalf during the brief hearing, made no plea or declaration for her client.

McCafferty was remanded in custody by the sheriff.

He is expected to make a second appearance in court next week for the case to be fully committed for trial.

Police maintained a presence outside the multi for more than 12 hours following Tuesday’s incident, with an officer standing guard outside the door of a flat.

Residents told of seeing two ambulances at the scene and several police units following reports of a disturbance.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 11.04pm on Tuesday about an incident at Dallfield Court.

“We sent one ambulance, which was on scene at 11.10pm, and we conveyed a 29-year-old male to Ninewells Hospital.”
