Man harassed his ex and turned up at her Dundee home despite being told not to

A man found guilty of harassing his ex-partner made her feel “scared and anxious” after turning up at her house unwanted.

Andrew McManus, 21, behaved in a threatening or abusive manner towards Maria Kadar, 26, at an address on Coupar Angus Road on September 20 last year.

His trial at the sheriff court heard how, despite Ms Kadar repeatedly telling him not to contact her, McManus turned up outside her bedroom window in the early hours of the morning.

He was found guilty of persistently contacting her and sending unwanted text messages.

McManus, formerly of Springfield, Fife, but now residing in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, was found not guilty of pushing her and repeatedly striking her on the body.

It was found there was no case to answer on a charge of stealing a mobile phone.

He was additionally found not guilty of striking her on the head and punching her on the body.

When giving evidence, Ms Kadar said she was staying with McManus but the pair had split up in early September 2017.

The court heard the contents of text messages shared between the two.

McManus said on September 20: “Can I come in a taxi now babe?”

Ms Kadar replied: “Do not spend your money. You won’t see me.”

Despite her warning, McManus told her: “I am coming. I’ll be there at 1.30am. Be awake.”

He followed through with his threat and woke Ms Kadar by knocking at her bedroom window.

She told the court: “My ex tried to come to my house.

“It wasn’t the first time that happened. I told him not to come.

“We were texting. He was trying to come back to me but I was trying to help him understand things.

“I was feeling anxious. Before I fell asleep I was scared he was going to turn up there.

“He was at my window and started to shout my name. I just started to shake.

“I didn’t want him there and I told him to please leave me alone.

“He kept trying to get in and he came inside the room and tried to cuddle me but I pushed him away.”

Sheriff George Way fined McManus £400.
