A man was today facing jail after he admitted lying about a claim to be “severely” disabled to scam almost £10,000 in benefits.
James Kane told officials at the Department for Work and Pensions that he had “severely restricted mobility and required assistance with care during the day”.
But in truth his disability was not nearly as severe as he claimed – a lie that allowed him to claim high rate Disability Living Allowance.
In all he fraudulently pocketed £9,832.08 between January 1 2015 and April 4 2017.
Kane, 66, of Abbotsford Place, Dundee, pleaded guilty on summary complaint to a charge under the Social Security Administration Act 1992.
Defence solicitor advocate Jim Laverty said: “The court will require to defer sentence for social work reports.”
Sheriff Linda Smith deferred sentence until May 30 for a criminal justice social work report and ordered Kane to appear on that date.
