A beggar who told a passer-by she had a drug problem and had spent £8,000 on heroin ended up assaulting the man the next time she saw him.
Natalie Hawes and her partner Kevin Duthie both admitted assault charges when they appeared in court.
Hawes, 23, and Duthie, 26, both of Elders Court, were due to stand trial but changed their pleas before the trial started.
Fiscal depute Marie Irvine told the court that some time before April 29 last year, the witness Sean McMillan had been chatting amicably to Hawes while she was begging and she had told him she had spent £8,000 on heroin.
On April 29, Mr McMillan and Luke Harrison were walking past Hawes when Mr McMillan remarked that she was the woman who told him about her drug problem and having spent the cash on “smack”.
She then approached him and struck him on the head, the court was told.
Then on May 1, Mr Harrison and another man were walking in the area when they saw Hawes. Mr Harrison told her to stay there as he was calling the police.
Both accused then approached the two men who ran off but Mr Harrison tripped and fell to the ground.
Ms Irvine said Duthie then kicked him twice on the body and struck him on the face.
Mr Harrison had already telephoned the police, she said, and he was still on the line at the time of the assault.
He had bruises and scratches but did not require treatment.
Duthie admitted that on May 1 last year, at a car park at Old Hawkhill, he assaulted Mr Harrison, repeatedly kicked him and struck him on the head, while on bail.
Hawes admitted that on April 29 last year, at Old Hawkhill, she assaulted Mr McMillan by striking him on the head.
Sentence was deferred on both until May 29 for reports and restriction of liberty order assessments.
