Liam Thompson, of Ladywell Avenue, had sentence deferred at Dundee Sheriff Court on drugs offences.
Thompson, 20, had previously admitted possessing cannabis resin and cannabis in Hilltown on September 28 last year, while on bail.
He also admitted that on November 9 last year, at Rainbow Music Store, in Cowgate, he repeatedly struck the window with a hammer and attempted to break into the shop with intent to steal, while on bail.
Sheriff John Rafferty was told Thompson had been jailed for more than three years last week for other offences.
He deferred sentence until Friday for Thompson to be brought to court from prison.
Thompson was jailed for 41 months by Sheriff Alastair Brown for housebreaking and assault on a shopkeeper.
