A joiner who drove his van while almost six times the limit because he was afraid his tools would be stolen has been fined and banned.
Kitchen fitter Jason Christie was fined £4,000 by Sheriff Alastair Brown and banned from driving for four years.
The sheriff told Christie, who has twice previously been caught drink-driving, he was lucky someone reported him to the police as he might have “killed someone”.
Christie was snared after police received a tip-off that he was drunk and intended to get behind the wheel of his van.
He was spotted on CCTV driving in Main Street before turning along Dens Road, driving along the rear of Dundee FC’s Dens Park then turning into North Isla Street.
Fiscal depute Isma Mukhtar told Dundee Sheriff Court: “He was breathalysed and the reading was 129 microgrammes.’’
Christie, 41, of Clepington Court, previously admitted driving with excess alcohol (129 mics) on March 30.
Solicitor Ian Houston said Christie had driven home because he feared tools worth £7,000 in the back of his van would be stolen.
He was placed on a restriction of liberty order confining him at home from 7pm-5am every day for two months.
