A man who threatened his own grandmother and swore at her has been jailed for six months.
Darren McMenemy admitted repeatedly demanding cash from his family and became aggressive, shouting and swearing, when they refused.
He phoned his grandmother, Doreen Anderson and told her he would “smash her car” and swore at her.
McMenemy’s own lawyer Ross Donnelly told Dundee Sheriff Court his behaviour “can’t be excused”.
Fiscal depute Isma Mukhtar told the court: “He attended at her home address around 10pm under the influence of a substance and asked for money but was told to leave and did so.
“Around 12.30am on March 26 he attended again demanding to be let in to use the telephone and was given £10 that time to get him to leave.
“On March 29 at 4pm the complainer received a telephone call from the accused,” she said.
Ms Mukhtar told the court he wanted his grandmother to meet him in town so more money could be given to him.
She said the phone was put on loudspeaker and other persons present could hear the accused swearing at her.
The fiscal continued: “On the afternoon of March 30 the complainer and other persons were within her address when the accused attended and knocked on the door several times, but he was ignored and left.
“Around 4pm there was a further telephone call asking where the complainer was. When told she was at home he said he was going to come back up on the bus and he again made further calls again in a similar vein in regards to money.”
McMenemy, 35, of McGill Street, pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner between March 26 and March 30 at an address in Dundee.
