Dealers facing jail after being caught red-handed with £80,000 drug stash

Two drug dealers caught red-handed carrying out a handover of almost £80,000 worth of illegal substances in a layby are facing lengthy jail terms.

Ryan Donaldson was under surveillance by police when he left his home in Wedderburn Street in Coldside to drive to a meeting with Hamish Grant on a rural road north of the city.

He was spotted handing over a holdall to Grant, who then drove away on to the A90 dual carriageway where he was stopped shortly after.

Fiscal depute Charmaine Gilmartin told Dundee Sheriff Court the bag was searched and found to contain more than 150 bars of cannabis resin worth up to £57,000.

Heroin with a potential street value of £23,750 was also recovered.

The fiscal said: “There were a total of 153 bars of cannabis resin, some of which were imprinted with a branding.

“Each was wrapped in plastic and weighed around 98 grams.

“Also within was a plastic bag containing brown packages.

“It contained a total of 495.01 grams of diamorphine.

“The purity was street level with a maximum value of £23,750.

“Both men were later cautioned and interviewed but made no comment.”

Grant, 53, of Croft Road, Elgin, and Donaldson, 46, of Arklay Place, Dundee, both pleaded guilty on indictment to being concerned in the supply of cannabis resin and diamorphine.

A third man, Richard Edwards, 38, of Findale Street, Dundee, appeared on the same indictment and pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cocaine on July 28 last year.

The court heard he had two quantities of cocaine in his home with a maximum total street value of £5,650.

Lawyers for all three men said they would give full pleas in mitigation at a later sentencing date.

Sheriff Alastair Brown deferred sentence on the trio until April 26.

Grant and Donaldson were remanded in custody meantime, while Edwards had his bail continued.
