Michael Drumm, 34, of Transform, Soapwork Lane, had sentence deferred.
Drumm had previously admitted that he stole a quantity of clothing at Debenhams, in Overgate, on January 12 and 13.
Fiscal depute Vicki Bell said Drumm was seen by other customers to place Fred Perry polo shirts into a carrier bag on January 12.
One customer told him to put them back and he put some of them back but made off with the rest.
The following day, Drumm was seen on CCTV returning to the store and putting more of the same shirts in a carrier bag. He was intercepted and detained by security.
Police were called and he was arrested.
Sheriff George Way deferred sentence until March 23.
