A man who racially abused his local shopkeeper because he refused him credit was remanded in custody pending reports.
Alastair Turnbull, 38, of Huntly Road, went to Huntly Supermarket after an all-night drinking binge to buy groceries, but he didn’t have enough money, Dundee Sheriff Court heard.
Fiscal depute Marie Irvine told the court Turnbull asked if he could pay for the groceries the next day, but when he was informed that wasn’t the policy of the shop, he began shouting at Muhammed Atif.
He was asked to leave, but refused to do so and called Mr Atif offensive names.
At police HQ, he butted PC Tony Weed on the face and struggled with officers.
Solicitor Anne Duffy said that Turnbull was a regular customer and had known the complainer for several years, adding: “He had been drinking quite heavily overnight and had gone to the shop for food and milk. He did not have enough money and asked if he could come in the next day and hand the money in, but was refused.”
Turnbull admitted that on March 11 at Huntly Supermarket, Huntly Square, he acted in a racially abusive manner, caused fear, alarm and distress to Mr Atif and assaulted PC Weed at Bell Street by striking him on the head with his head and kicking him on the body.
Sentence was deferred by Sheriff George Way until April 9.
