A man who started a fire in the toilet area of a pub — causing smoke damage to the building — has been ordered to pay compensation to its owners.
Jamie Siddons, 34, of Craigmount Road, previously had his sentence deferred at Dundee Sheriff Court for him to be of good behaviour.
He admitted that, on February 7 last year, at the Blue Stane, Alexandra Place, St Andrews, he wilfully set fire to a hand towel dispenser and paper towels and the fire took effect, causing damage to them, the toilet area and smoke damage to the building.
Fiscal depute Laura Bruce said repairs to the toilet area had cost more than £2,000.
Solicitor David Duncan said his client had been of good behaviour.
Sheriff Linda Smith ordered Siddons to pay £500 in compensation.
