A former chef has hit out at two brothers who were each fined £500 for punching him on a karaoke night.
Walter Lettice, 51, of Mains Road, and Peter Lettice, 54, of North Street, admitted attacking Andrew Mayes at the Athletic Bar, in Strathmartine Road, Hilltown, on October 20 last year.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard the incident happened after Mr Mayes complained about Walter Lettice’s dog.
Mr Mayes, 55, was in the pub at the same time as Walter Lettice who was with the dog — described by the victim as a “little puppy” — during a karaoke night at the pub.
Mr Mayes, of the Hilltown, whose medical condition means he is not working, said he didn’t know the brothers before he entered the pub and he had not set foot in the premises since.
He told the Tele: “I am glad this is all over. You cannot go round punching people in a pub.
“I am glad they got a hefty fine. I wanted them to be punished.”
Mr Mayes said he expected the pair to be given a community payback order.
Fiscal depute Joanne Smith told the court that on the night of the incident, Mr Hayes advised Walter Lettice to keep his dog away from him.
She added: “The complainer then referred to the dog having bitten his friend.
“At around 10.30pm, the complainer was standing at the bar when Walter Lettice pulled him to the ground. Walter Lettice then punched the complainer to the face and the body.”
The court heard that Mr Mayes punched Walter Lettice in an attempt to defend himself.
Walter Lettice was then pulled away and removed from the pub.
Peter Lettice then attended and punched Mr Mayes in the face, causing his nose to bleed and swell.
Peter Lettice then left the premises and both he and his brother were later traced and arrested.
Sentence had been deferred a month ago for criminal justice social work reports and a restriction of liberty assessment on both brothers.
However, Sheriff Tom Hughes told both accused he had taken on board what was contained in the reports and had come to the conclusion he could deal with the case with a monetary penalty. He fined both men £500.
