A man who assaulted two police officers after being found lying in the street had suffered a seizure and remembers nothing of his actions, Dundee Sheriff Court was told.
Lindsay Sloan, 37, of Happyhillock Road, apologised to police when he woke up the next day, solicitor Anne Duffy said.
She said: “He accepts he acted in this way but has no recollection of events. He had injuries to his head.”
Sloan admitted that on January 27, at Dura Street, he assaulted PC Ian Buchan by biting him on the body to his injury and assaulted PC Nicola Grant by attempting to punch her on the head and body.
He also admitted breaching a community payback order by failing to comply with social workers.
Fiscal depute Trina Sinclair told the court Sloan had been found lying on the ground at around 3.45pm by a member of the public who had called an ambulance.
When police arrived the person told them they suspected he was having a seizure and had banged his head when he fell.
When he came to, police tried to talk to him but he refused to engage with them and when they got him to his feet he became agitated and repeatedly attempted to punch PC Grant on the face. Mrs Sinclair told the court he was repeatedly told to calm down by the officers but he repeatedly lashed out and other officers arrived.
Sloan then lunged forward with his head and bit PC Buchan on his thigh. The officer had it assessed at hospital but did not require medical intervention, she said.
When cautioned and charged, she said, he apologised and said he couldn’t remember anything. Sheriff Lorna Drummond deferred sentence on the breach charge for Sheriff Alastair Carmichael to deal with on February 5 and until February 26 on the assault charges.
