A drunken Aberdeen FC fan who verbally abused a Dundee FC steward was arrested on an “illegal” warrant, which ultimately prevented him from boarding a plane to America for a work project.
Craig Watson, 34, of Forest Park, Stonehaven, was arrested at Aberdeen Airport on the warrant from Dundee Sheriff Court, which stated he had failed to attend court while on an undertaking to appear on December 28.
Watson, an engineer, had been due to fly to Houston, Texas, for a business trip but was stopped from travelling.
However, the court undertaking had never been signed, solicitor Douglas Williams told the court, saying the warrant was therefore “illegal” and should never have been granted.
The court was told Watson had been on a works day out and was ejected from the stadium by stewards during the Scottish Premiership match on December 8 between Dundee and Aberdeen.
He was accused of swearing at supervisor Aimee Scott, behaving in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause fear or alarm and threatening her with violence.
Police were called and Watson was arrested for a breach of the peace.
Sheriff Lorna Drummond fined him £170 .
