A drunk man who assaulted an ambulance technician who was trying to help him has been jailed.
Neil Clark, 56, of Loons Road, fell off a bar stool in the Ancrum Arms in Lochee on Boxing Day and struck his head, and was taken to Ninewells Hospital by ambulance.
On arrival at Accident & Emergency he headbutted Andrew Hayman, an ambulance technician, and became confrontational towards other staff, Dundee Sheriff Court heard.
Solicitor Jim Caird said Clark was “deeply ashamed” of his behaviour.
Sheriff Tom Hughes told Clark he had behaved like “an absolute idiot” in front of patients, including young children and inconvenienced busy A&E staff.
“You also accept that you assaulted an emergency worker who was actively trying to help you.
“The message needs to be sent out that this will not be tolerated by the courts.”
The sheriff jailed Clark for six months.
