Brian Millar, 21, of Aboyne Avenue, had sentence deferred at Dundee Sheriff Court for two months for him to be of good behaviour after he breached a community payback order.
The order had been imposed for motoring offences, but the court heard he had not complied with the order and had failed to engage with social workers.
Sheriff John Rafferty told Millar: “You have been paying lip service to this order and manipulating the system to keep yourself out of jail.
“Because of your age, and only because of that, I will give you the opportunity over the next two months to engage with the programme.
“If you don’t comply, you can come back and expect a custodial sentence.
“The matter is entirely in your hands.”
Sentence was deferred until February 21 and he was allowed bail.
