A man is to stand trial accused of assaulting people while brandishing a gun and a machete, driving a van at and hitting a man, and dragging him along the ground before forcing the gun into his mouth.
Peter McPhee, 31, a prisoner at HMP Addiewell, is also charged with dangerous driving and losing control of the van. McPhee denied a series of charges at Dundee Sheriff Court, where trial date was set for Wednesday January 10.
He denies that on October 2, in the Luna Place car park at Dundee Technology Park, while acting with another unknown, he assaulted John McGinley, Margaret McGinley, Christina Ward, who had then been eight months pregnant, and a child, who cannot be named for reasons.
It is alleged that McPhee brandished a machete, struck a caravan with it, demanded money, brandished a handgun, and drove a van at John McGinley and Christina Ward, causing them to take evasive action.
McPhee also denies striking John McGinley and Christina Ward on the body with the vehicle and dragging Mr McGinley along the ground, colliding with two parked caravans and thereafter pointing the firearm at Mr McGinley before forcing the barrel of the firearm into his mouth, all to his injury.
McPhee further denies that, on the same date, at Riverside Avenue, Toadhills Road, the A90 Dundee to Aberdeen Road, and on an unclassified road leading to Nether Finlarg, all Dundee, he drove dangerously and at speed, and lost control of the van, ending up in a burn. He also denies driving while disqualified and without insurance.
