A Dundee man is to stand trial accused of knocking his girlfriend unconscious and endangering her life – after he allegedly drove “at speed” while his girlfriend lay on the bonnet of his car.
Ryan McEwan, 25, of HMP Perth, faces charges of assault, breach of bail and failing to stop when required to do so by police over an incident in Dundee on July 22.
He is alleged to have assaulted Cheryl Walker during the course of a car journey between the Fintry area of the city and Arklay Street, and then in Arklay Street itself.
Prosecutors say McEwan seized her hair, attempted to pull her from a car, repeatedly punched her on the head and drove the car at speed whilst she was lying on the bonnet.
It is said she then fell from the bonnet to the ground, rendering her unconscious all to her injury and danger of life.
McEwan is further alleged to have contacted Miss Walker while banned from doing so under a bail order and failing to stop his car after being required to do so by PCs Leanne Gilbert and David Feeney.
All the offences are alleged to have occurred on July 22 this year while McEwan was subject to a bail order granted on June 8 at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Sheriff Alastair Brown set a trial date in December.
