Liam Thomson, 20, of Ladywell Avenue, had sentence deferred for reports at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Thomson admitted stealing a quantity of fragrance, while on bail, from Debenhams in the Overgate Centre on October 22.
Solicitor Kevin Hampton said there was an emerging drug problem that had contributed to his recent offending.
Sheriff Derek Reekie told Thomson he had been on three bail orders at the time of the offence, but as he had only one previous conviction, he would give him one last chance.
The sheriff deferred sentence until November 22 and called for reports and a restriction of liberty assessment, placing Thomson on a curfew between 7pm-7am each day meantime.
