Jamie Petrie, 30, of Ballantrae Place, was placed on a community payback order with 100 hours of unpaid work.
Petrie admitted that on August 8, at Lewis Terrace, he breached a bail condition by sending text messages to Diane Gray, while on bail.
Solicitor Anika Jethwa told Dundee Sheriff Court Petrie had spent 20 days in custody as a result of the breach.
She said the couple had been in a 12-year relationship and had two children.
His ex-partner had been sending messages from their daughter’s phone asking for money to go to the cinema, but was found out when his daughter told him she knew nothing about it, the court heard.
It was also claimed she had been sending “quite rude” messages to his new partner from a friend’s Facebook page pretending to be a man who was interested in her.
