A man who assaulted his ex-partner and continually harassed her for much of the following year was jailed for 11 months.
Stephen Bell, 31, of Dunmore Street, admitted six separate complaints, four of them for breaching non-harassment or bail orders, dating back to May last year.
Sheriff Alastair Carmichael told Bell he had investigated various alternatives to custody, but the social work report suggested he was unsuitable due to his “apparent inability to change his lifestyle”.
Sheriff Carmichael said: “He was on five separate bail orders. I think the court has gone beyond the position of a non-custodial sentence.”
Bell admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner on May 1 last year at Helmsdale Avenue, Kirkton.
He also admitted assaulting Ms Brand on August 12 last year at her home, then on August 23 breaching a bail condition by entering Helmsdale Avenue.
He further admitted breaching a bail condition on November 15 last year by repeatedly approaching Ms Brand and entering the street; breaching a domestic abuse interdict on March 28 this year at Panmure Street, while on bail; and breaching bail by entering Helmsdale Avenue and driving past Ms Brand’s address, while on bail.
Sheriff Carmichael told Bell: “You have continued to offend and I don’t know why.”
