A man has been accused of leading police on a 109mph car chase and crashing into another vehicle along the way.
Scott Fraser, 33, of Finedon Terrace in Fintry, is alleged to have driven dangerously on a six-mile stretch of the A92 east of Dundee.
He appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court where he faced a total of eight charges.
He denied all the allegations and will stand trial later this year.
Fraser is alleged to have driven dangerously at high speeds down the A92 from Balmachie Farm north of Carnoustie to the roundabout at East Balgillo Road in Broughty Ferry on Friday.
The charges against him allege the car came to a halt by the side of the busy route.
It is alleged Fraser reached speeds in excess of 109mph while travelling on a 70mph stretch of the road.
He is also accused of driving at speeds in excess of 60mph in a 40mph zone.
He is further accused of hitting another vehicle and causing damage to it on the same stretch of road.
In addition to charges of driving dangerously at excessive speeds and failing to stop and report an accident, Fraser is accused of failing to stop for police, driving without insurance, failing to produce a licence, failing to produce a test certificate, failing to produce driver details and possession of cannabis.
Following a short appearance in court, Fraser was granted bail and is due to go on trial on September 11.
One passerby told of seeing police units, a silver car and a recovery vehicle at the side of the A92 following the alleged chase.
People living nearby told of hearing a commotion in the area around 6pm on Friday.
Stacey Parkin, 37, of Balgillo Road, was walking her dog at the time.
She said: “I was around the corner so couldn’t see it but I heard a huge bang.
“I walked back round the corner and saw officers taking someone away.”
One resident of Westerton Avenue, who asked not to be named, said he saw six patrol cars at the scene.
He added: “I was sitting in my garden at the time and heard the police sirens.”
