A Dundee man who gave police a fake name and struck out at officers has been fined.
Martin Devlin, 29, of St Columba Gardens, was ordered to pay £270 at the city’s sheriff court.
The court heard that Devlin had given officers a fake name and, after his identity was established and they made attempts to arrest him, he reacted by striking out at them.
Devlin admitted that, after police were called to a disturbance at Ballindean Road, he said he was Michael Devlin and gave a different address but the police did not believe him.
Officers then tried to arrest Devlin for an outstanding warrant and he started to strike out with his hands and legs in an effort to prevent officers putting handcuffs on him.
Police successfully handcuffed him and he was taken to Bell Street headquarters.
An agent appearing on behalf of Devlin said his client had given the false name because some time had passed since the disturbance had occurred and he “wanted to go home”.
He said: “He was not involved in the disturbance, he had returned to the flat in question and waited for police officers to get there.
“By the time he was spoken to, he simply wanted to go home and he gave a false name as a result of that.”
Devlin admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice and obstructing police in Ballindean Road on July 2.
