Two men ‘tried to bundle two women into car in Dundee’

Two men have been charged with trying to bundle two women into a car in an attempt to abduct them.

Vygantas Gadeikis, 28, and Evaldas Norbutas, 29, are accused of grabbing their alleged victims and trying to force them into a vehicle.

The pair will stand trial at Dundee Sheriff Court facing a total of three charges between them.

Gadeikis, whose address was given at court as Victoria Hotel, Lower Mill Street, Blairgowrie, denies two charges against him.

He stands accused of assaulting Mhairi Cormack by seizing hold of her by the arm, dragging her up a flight of stairs towards a car and chasing her.

He is then alleged to have seized hold of her body, struggled with her and pushed and pulled her towards a car — before attempting to push her into the vehicle to abduct her.

The incident is alleged to have happened at Park Wynd — close to Dundee University — on October 3 2015.

Gadekis is further accused of assaulting Cherilyn Lawrie.

It’s alleged that he seized hold of her by the arm, dragged her up a flight of stairs towards a car and attempted to abduct her at the same location and on the same date.

Meanwhile, Norbutas, of Croft Court, Blairgowrie, is also accused of assaulting Ms Lawrie at the same location and on the same date.

He is alleged to have committed the offence by chasing her, seizing her by the body, pushing and pulling her against railings and attempting to abduct her.

It’s further alleged that he placed his arms on either side of her, trapping her against a set of railings, refused to let her go and detained her against her will.

Norbutas also denies the charges against him.

The pair will return to the sheriff court on June 26 to face trial.
