A bus driver knocked down a pedestrian, rendering her unconscious and fracturing her skull.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard that driver Colin Black, 51, hit Anita Joseph after carelessly driving through a red light.
The incident happened at 6.11pm on February 16 last year as Miss Joseph was crossing the road at Alexandra Place, St Andrews, at a roundabout just yards from the town’s bus station.
Fiscal Depute Vicki Bell told the court it was a dark evening and raining, and pedestrians were wearing dark clothing.
She said Black was travelling at 8mph when he failed to stop the bus he was driving to Leven at a red traffic light and stopped just short of a junction.
Black collided with Miss Joseph, who was already on the road, causing her to fall to the ground unconscious.
The fiscal said: “The complainer suffered a skull fracture and was taken to Ninewells Hospital where she was kept under observation for 48 hours, having vomited and suffered concussion.
“She suffered frequent dizziness for a short time after the accident.”
Solicitor Gordon Runcie, defending, said: “He’s held a driving licence for 30-odd years and it’s the first time he’s been involved in an accident.
“As a consequence he’s been taken off driving busses by his employer Stagecoach and now works in the depot.”
Black, of Campbell Place, Glenrothes, admitted careless driving. He was issued with six driving penalty points and fined £600.
