A convicted offender contacted a woman he was jailed for stalking just months after his release.
Darren Shields, 31, is back behind bars after admitting breaching an antisocial behaviour order by contacting the woman.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard Shields sent “bizarre” text messages to his victim’s mum just months after he was released from prison for stalking her and placed on the five-year ASBO.
Having been placed on the sex offenders register in 2014, Shields was then jailed in June last year after admitting stalking the woman.
The court heard he stood outside a pub staring at her and repeatedly told his parents he was in love with her – despite being warned to leave her alone.
Following his release from prison in December last year he then contacted the same woman in July.
Fiscal depute Vicki Bell told the court he attempted to add her as a friend on Facebook, then stood staring into her car when she passed him on the street.
The fiscal said: “On August 24 the woman’s mother noticed she had received three messages which she immediately suspected were from the accused.
“She alerted the woman to this, who noticed the profile picture was the same as on the friend request she had received.
“The woman felt scared the accused was going to be coming to look for her, so she contacted police.”
Shields was traced on September 1 and has been remanded since.
Sheriff Alastair Brown ordered Shields return to prison to serve the remaining 85 days of his licence and a further 11 months and two weeks. He was also placed on a six-month supervised release order and an indefinite non-harassment order not to contact the woman or her family.
