Man went to ex’s house with knife and threatened love rival

A man lunged at his ex-partner’s new lover with a knife on New Year’s Day.

Juri Rasputin, 35, from Charleston, had been in a relationship with 28-year-old Olga Ivanova for five years.

But after they broke up, Rasputin, of Buttar’s Loan, went to her home on January 1 this year with a kitchen knife.

Ms Ivanova’s new partner Byron Young was there and a friend told police he had “no doubts” Rasputin would have stabbed Mr Young if he hadn’t been stopped in his tracks.

Earlier that month, Rasputin threatened to kill Ms Ivanova after their relationship had ended.

Fiscal depute Vicki Bell told Dundee Sheriff Court: “On December 4 2015 the complainer went to pick up the car she shared with the accused. The accused shouted, ‘I will not leave you alone’.

“The complainer got in the car and left. At 8.20pm the accused asked her to call him. He again shouted at her. He said he would kill her.

“The complainer turned her phone off and drove to a police station to report the incident.

“She told the police she was frightened of the accused but did not actually think he would kill her.”

Then on January 1, Rasputin went to his ex-partner’s home in Lilybank Terrace. Ms Bell said: “Ms Ivanova was at her home address with Mr Young and his friend.

“At 3.30am all parties became aware of a banging at the door. They then saw the accused enter the property. He had a small kitchen knife in his possession. Mr Young stood up and accidentally tripped and fell to the ground.

“The accused walked straight to Mr Young and waved a knife towards him.

“Mr Young’s friend and Ms Ivanova pushed the accused to the door.

“The accused kicked out towards Mr Young and missed. He left the locus and took the knife with him.

“Mr Young’s friend told the police, ‘I have no doubts he would have stabbed Byron if he had got to him’.”

Solicitor Kevin Hampton, defending Rasputin, told the court: “He has been in this country for nine years and is from Estonia. He met the complainer and they had an affair. They are now separated.”

Rasputin admitted three charges including lunging at Mr Young with a knife in his possession and threatening behaviour. The case was adjourned till December 13 for reports and Rasputin was granted bail meantime.
