A Dundee man was ordered to carry out 160 hours unpaid work after assaulting his estranged wife.
Christopher Webster, 38, of Americanmuir Road, attacked Debbie Webster at an address on Lauderdale Avenue on August 18.
At Dundee Sheriff Court, Webster admitted seizing hold of his victim and picking her up before pushing her to the ground.
He then placed his arm around her neck and compressed it.
Webster further placed his other hand over the woman’s mouth, causing her breathing to be restricted.
Webster’s agent said it “was a very unsavoury incident” and his client had let “the situation run away from him”.
The court heard that Webster and his wife have since split up.
Webster’s agent stressed that his client’s life had “moved on significantly” since the incident and had now found employment as a gas engineer, following a period of working offshore.
Webster was ordered by Sheriff Lorna Drummond QC to complete 160 hours of unpaid work within a six-month period.
Sheriff Drummond said: “This is a serious assault of a domestic nature.
“Having read the report, I understand you have found work.
“I am proposing a community payback order as an alternative to custody.”
