A man bit a 4cm chunk out of a love rival’s ear after hearing his ex speak about her new partner.
Dundee Sheriff Court heard that jealous Alan MacMillan, 36, carried out the savage attack on Ryan Rosscraig, 33, in his own home in Dundee.
Fiscal depute Eilidh Robertson told the court MacMillan and his ex, Nicola McAndrew, were drinking at a mutual friend’s house on the evening of August 13.
The fiscal said: “Around 10.20pm, the accused became angry when Miss McAndrew began to speak about her new partner and left the friend’s home stating he was going to knock out Mr Rosscraig.
“The accused began to walk towards Mr Rosscraig’s home.
“Miss McAndrew followed him and she, the accused and their friend all entered Mr Rosscraig’s home.”
Mr Rosscraig was lying on the sofa and asked MacMillan to leave but instead he punched Mr Rosscraig twice on the face without warning.
The fiscal continued: “The accused then climbed on top of Mr Rosscraig, straddling him, while continuing to punch him on the head.
“The accused’s friend later told the police: ‘Ryan was trying to fight back but he was getting a doing. He had no chance. He was punching him rapidly, loads of times.’
“The accused then leaned in towards Mr Rosscraig and bit him on the ear.”
Miss McAndrew pulled MacMillan off Mr Rosscraig but he remained within the property for a further 10 minutes before agreeing to leave.
Police attended around an hour later and saw MacMillan and Miss McAndrew outside the block of flats on Court Street North.
MacMillan’s t-shirt was ripped and he had blood staining on it.
Mr Rosscraig was found inside his flat with a “significant bite wound” to his ear, a section of his ear missing and swelling to his face.
Paramedics treated and dressed a 4cm gouge missing from the back of his ear after Mr Rosscraig refused to go to hospital.
MacMillan, a prisoner at Perth, admitted assaulting Ryan Rosscraig by repeatedly punching him on the head and biting his ear to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement at Court Street North on August 13.
Sentence was deferred until November 22 and MacMillan was remanded meantime.
